All players aged 7 to 18 years of age must go through an evaluation process to ensure that players are placed in the appropriate division based on age, ability, skill level and safety considerations.
Players will be evaluated with other players of the same league age as defined by Little League Baseball. Evaluations will be held for the following age groups: 7-8 year olds, 9-10 year olds, 11-12 year olds, 13, 14-16, and 17-18 year olds. The teenage evaluations may be conducted at the District level.
A 9 year old could be assigned to either the Minor or Rookie Ball Divisions based on his/her evaluation results. A 9 year old determined to be skilled enough to play in the Minor Division cannot choose to play in the Rookie Ball Division. This applies even if the player has a sibling in the lower division.
Some 10 year old players may be invited by league officials to try out for the Major Division and would be required to also attend the 11-12 year olds evaluation session. In these cases the following criteria will apply: 1) must have played the previous year in the Minor Division, 2) must be one of the top players in his/her age group, 3) there must be available spots in the Major Division, 4) must be recommended to play up and invited to try out for the higher division.
Some 8 year old players may be invited by league officials to try out for the Minor Division and would be required to also attend the 9-10 year olds evaluation session. In these cases the following criteria will apply: 1) must have played the previous year in the Rookie Ball Division, 2) must be one of the top players in his/her age group, 3) there must be available spots in the Major Division, 4) must be recommended to play up and invited to try out for the higher division.
The Minor Division may be tiered into A and B teams in order to create a better and more balanced competition amongst the players within the division. This decision will be based on a number of factors and will be made prior to the start of each season. The player evaluation process will be used to assign players if a tiered structure is implemented in any given season.
If you are interested in coaching in the Minor Division, please identify this on the online registration form or contact the Minor Coordinator at [email protected] or Mark Heppner, the VP of this division at [email protected]
