All-Stars Summer Baseball

All-Stars baseball is a competitive summer travel program for players who want to continue playing at a high level following spring season. It offers more games, more practices, and strong competition against other District leagues.
Players will represent Cal West as they travel throughout Alberta and parts of Saskatchewan, competing against some of the best Little League players in Western Canada. The All-Star season runs from spring playoffs through to the Prairie Championship tournament on the August long weekend.
**Players selected to the Majors AAA All-Star team will compete for a chance to go to the Little League World Series held in Williamsport, PA.
All-Stars baseball is best suited for:
- Players who love baseball and enjoy competition
- Players who want additional development through frequent practices and games
- Families who are flexible and can commit to the travel, time, and schedule
Teams typically consist of 10-13 players. Following try-outs, teams are formed by level (A, AA, AAA), beginning with AAA. Coaches are finalized once players are assigned to their teams.

Player selection is based on multiple factors, including tryout performance, coach observations during spring practices and games, and performance during spring tournament play. The All-Star program is a competitive program with limited roster spots. As a result, registration to play, and participation in tryouts, do not guarantee placement on a team.
Evaluations are conducted for all players in spring house league as part of our registration process. Evaluations help the league assess each player’s current skill level and ensures players are not only placed in the appropriate division, but that teams are also formed as evenly as possible. Players are not cut as a result of evaluations.
Tryouts are used for our competitive All-Star program where players are selected for limited roster spots based on performance. Participation in a tryout does not guarantee placement on a competitive team.
Tryouts are intended to support competitive play while maintaining Little League’s commitment to sportsmanship, fair play, and positive player development.
Fair Play
“Fair play” is often associated with creating an even playing field where all players receive equal opportunities to participate, as is typical in spring baseball. Here, the focus is on inclusivity and ensuring that everyone has a balanced amount of playing time and exposure to different positions, regardless of performance outcomes./p>
Play to Win
In contrast, “play to win” comes into effect during high-stakes games, such as those in the Championship Weekend. The focus shifts toward strategic decisions that maximize the team’s chances of success. This means that coaches may adjust where players are placed based on their performance and the needs of the team.
We understand that this competitive approach may be new for some families. Sharing this information ahead of time helps everyone be fully informed, making it easier to focus on the positive aspects of teamwork and sportsmanship.
